A new, 3.3-mile multi-use trail along the Lake Ontario State Parkway in Greece and Rochesteris officially open. The trail connects the existing Route 390 bike path to the Genesee Riverway Trail. The trail head is on Island Cottage Road, just north of Janes Road.

Construction on the $1.9 million trail began in November 2008 and was completed this week. The trail parallels the north side of the Parkway beginning at the existing 390 Bike Path on the west side of Route 390 and extends 3.3 miles to the Genesee Riverway Trail on River Street in Charlotte. A short section of the trail runs along Latta Road between River Street and the Parkway.

State Department of Transportation Acting Regional Director Bob Traver noted that the new trail offers a scenic escape for pedestrians: “This trail project takes advantage of wooded areas, views of surrounding bodies of water and wetlands and fits into the character of the Parkway setting. I am pleased with the work that our landscape, environmental and construction groups did to safely design and deliver this capital project.”
